Goodbye Little White Eye

A moment ago you were perched

On a tree nearby

Singing joyously to your mate.

But alas!

A reflection, a cruel illusion

Tricked your eye

Into seeing blue sky

In the newly cleaned glass

Of my large bay window.

In the blink of an eye

You flew mindlessly

Crashed head-on and fell to your death.

My heart stood still for an instant

Seeing you motionless

On the cold hard ground

Your soft green-gold feathers

Still warm to my touch,

Your eyes closed

Showing off to perfection

The white lines around them.

Your untimely death saddened me.

But little White Eye

You were oblivious to my sorrow.
